International. Located an hour outside of New York and with a magnificent view of the countryside, PonderRosa Studios is a retirement recording studio where artists can stay on site, enjoy the accommodations, and focus on making wonderful musical recordings.
The 2600-square-foot studio is equipped with high-caliber equipment for analog and digital recording, most recently upgrading its control room with the addition of an SSL XL Desk.
Studio manager, producer and engineer Tom Askin recorded his first album in this same room in the mid-1990s before it was PonderRosa Studios. "The original facility was specially designed as a recording studio. It worked successfully for about 18 years and then the space lay dormant for a few years, waiting for the resurrection. All that remains of the old studio are the pine walls, from top to bottom, the rest of the facility has been completely renovated."
Askin notes that they did the initial redesign to the studio, but waited on the choice of their analog console for a year or so while they did the research on what would be the best analog console for PonderRosa.
"While we were preparing to get an analog console we were working on the computer. That's why we organized the control room table the way we did, with a variety of external microphone preamps like the front, and then it mixes into the computer at the end. I was delighted to see and hear the result," Askin said.
