Mexico. GDLUZ is a unique audiovisual event in Mexico. For five days, and within the framework of the 475th anniversary of the founding of Guadalajara, the historic center of the city was illuminated with multimedia technology through video-mappings on the most emblematic buildings of the city, synchronized pyrotechnics, multimedia shows and a giant sphere of light, among other facilities.
The festival was mainly driven by the Mexican company Altea Corp, a specialist in development and content of multimedia events that has designed shows for brands such as Coca Cola, Volvo, Adidas, Nike and Chivas, with the support of the City of Guadalajara and private initiative.
Christie's technology was used in three festival installations. In the first of them, which took place in the Plaza Tapatía, through real-time captures the faces of the attendees were projected on giant faces 12 meters high, making funny interventions on them.
Laser Mapping was the name of another of the interactive projections, and it also took place in Plaza Tapatía. Here, with a laser pointer, attendees drew shapes and images that were projected in real time with Christie projectors on one of the walls of a building on a projection surface of 360 square meters.
The third projection where Christie's technology shone was in the interactive mapping on the esplanade of the Hospicio Cabañas, Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Through a proprietary application designed by Altea Corp that included custom-made servers for image processing and motion sensors, attendees became authors of a video mapping playing in real time to "paint" the façade of the Hospicio Cabañas. The projectable area in this case was 462 square meters.
The truth is that Altea Corp is delighted with the performance of the Christie Roadster HD20K-J projectors used in GDLUZ: "The equipment had an excellent performance, with a very good image quality", says Carlos Márquez, projection director of Altea Corp. "The on and off times are optimal, as well as the duration of the lamp", Adds. These are projectors of 3DLP® technology, 20,000 lumens and HD resolution.
Christie Pandoras Box also played a key role in managing the shows. Specifically, Altea Corp used Pandoras Box Players and Pandoras Box Managers to manage the projections and control the shows, lighting and pyrotechnics. "Pandoras Box was a crucial element in the development of the three interactive mappings. It is an excellent product for the reliability it provides," says Carlos Márquez.
The festival, which could be enjoyed by more than 460,000 attendees, has already become a new emblem of Guadalajara. "We want to congratulate our partner Altea Corp for their great work on this project," said Ernesto Armus, director of Christie in Mexico. "Christie constantly strives to provide its partners with the most efficient and intuitive solutions for complex large-format projections," he concluded.
