Colombia. Since July 19, 2017, through software, organizations can check the veracity of signatures and emails, photos, videos, documents, information contained in databases, identity and even copyright. They can even use them as evidence in the framework of an economic negotiation or legal process.
This is clarified by the Colombian Technical Standard NTC 6231, Probative value and admissibility of electronic computing, issued by the Ministry of Finance and Credit, the MINISTRY of ICT, the General Archive of the Nation, the Bank of the Republic, the Agustín Codazzi Geographical Institute, among other entities that seek, through Big Data, the verification of the legitimacy of the information within the companies.
"The purpose of this standard is that organizations can manage their data in such a way that it functions as evidence in different areas, including business and legal disputes," says Andrés Guzmán, CEO of Adalid's forensic laboratory and an expert lawyer in computer security.
The NTC 6231 takes on special importance at this time, because taking into account the increase in business creation in 2017 of 7.28%, of the "Business Dynamics Report of (Confecámaras), the Standard invites all existing and creation companies to follow the guidelines of electronic documents so that they are valid within organizations.
As for who should avail themselves of this regulation, Guzmán assures that any company that considers it pertinent, can implement this protocol as long as it has software that analyzes, stores and guarantees the non-alteration of the information.
Barcodes, optical character recognition (OCR) and metadata capture are some of the tools mentioned by the Standard in order to verify the authenticity of documents, which can only be verified once they are on the digital platform, but not before their capture.
In Latin America, this verification system is used recurrently in countries such as Costa Rica, Peru, Chile, Peru, Mexico among others. And in Colombia, an increase in the use of this kind of procedure is expected within the next 10 years due to the importance that digital data is becoming increasingly important.
