Samsung launched Solutions for the Future 2020 contest

Chile. The launch of the new version of Samsung's global program "Solve For Tomorrow", aims to stimulate the work of young people as a team to deliver solutions that can benefit their communities, families and friends, developing tools for the resolution of difficulties and real-life situations.

Along with the launch of this new version, the first stage of the contest began, which involves the registration of the teams and a first outline of the problems that will be worked on. Great interest is expected from the school community this year, considering that in the 2019 version 926 students and 146 teachers from 151 schools in 14 regions of the country participated.

"Soluciones para el Futuro seeks to encourage high school students, throughout Chile, to reflect and creatively search for solutions to problems identified in their community or environment using STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, for its acronym in English)" says Paulina Rodríguez, Manager of Corporate Citizenship at Samsung Electronics Chile.

The Solutions for the Future contest consists of five stages in which, progressively, students must account for a difficulty or complication of their locality and the solution to work, starting from research and associated theory, until reaching the elaboration of a prototype that allows to respond to what has been proposed.

The first rule to follow, to participate in this contest, is that students must work collaboratively, participating in teams of between two and five members, guided by a teacher, and in order to promote the reduction of gaps in STEM, it is required of the organizers that in the teams there is, at least, a female participant.

"The main objective of the contest is that all students have the opportunity to work with technological tools that allow them to be a contribution within their environment, especially in times of crisis such as the current one, where it is essential to make community and contribute to society," says Catalina Araya, Director of Education of Fundación País Digital.

Stages of the Solutions for the Future Contest:
1. From June 10 to July 31, teams can register along with an outline of the problems they will work on www.solucionesparaelfuturo.cl

2. On August 24, the 30 selected to continue in the final stretch of Samsung's global contest will be communicated.

3. On October 5, the 10 selected teams will be announced and they will have to make a video explaining their solution.

4. On October 26, a popular vote on the web of the 10 selected videos will be invited. One team will be chosen by the public and the other four by the jury.

5. On November 9, the 5 finalists will be announced, who will receive a mentorship from leaders of different organizations related to technology.
