International. Due to its technology and various applications that benefit the environment, LED lighting will have an increase in sales in the world market, according to the latest study by the Department of Energy of the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) and UK-based N14 Energy Limited.
According to the market study, in about five years, LED lights will lead global sales of bulbs, surpassing fluorescent lamps. In large part, this will be due to the fact that lighting manufacturers will continue to bet on new LED developments that allow greater energy efficiency.
The report also points out several features that will influence the lighting market in the coming years with LED lighting, such as that it reduces the environmental impact up to 10 times and that the gap between this technology and fluorescent will increase in the coming years.
And although the production of fluorescent bulbs is cheaper than LEDs, the environmental impact, the duration, the lower chemical residues and the efficiency of the latter, will allow the cost to take a back seat in the near future.
Those in charge of the study pointed out that, according to the advances and new developments of LED lighting, it is expected that by 2017 the environmental pollution caused by current LED lamps will be reduced even more, by up to 50%.
Added to this panorama is the fact that many governments around the world have begun to ban the use of luminaires that are not friendly to the environment, a factor that will further influence the LED market.
