International. As a measure of environmental protection and energy saving, the authorities of the European Union described the prohibition of the sale of incandescent lamps from the first of September.
Although everyone recognizes the benefits and good intentions of the measure, the criticism has not been long in coming due to the costs it will imply for the inhabitants of the area, since the price of an incandescent lamp can be tripled compared to a fluorescent, and with an LED the difference is even greater.
But the promoters of the measure have come out in step with these criticisms by ensuring that the environmental benefits, energy savings and the useful life of lighting products of new technologies justify the initial cost of the product.
In addition, manufacturers have pointed out that after this measure it is very likely that the prices of lighting products of new technologies will lower their prices in the euro zone over the next few years.
Europe is thus following the global trend of eliminating the sale of incandescent lights, as other countries have already done.
In Latin America there are some particular cases such as Colombia, where the sale of these luminaires has been prohibited for a year. In addition, in Brazil and Argentina governments and manufacturers are promoting the use of new technologies to replace incandescent lights.
