Colombia. Level 3 Communications will build a new submarine cable that will connect Colombia to its international network. The construction of the terrestrial segment of the cable is being carried out together with EmCali, a state-owned utility company based in Cali, Colombia. The new infrastructure will significantly improve access to and efficiency of communications services in the country.
The new submarine route ensures greater international connectivity for Colombia, by adding a submarine cable in the Pacific that will connect the country, thereby eliminating dependence on traditional connectivity across the Caribbean Coast. It will create an efficient alternative route to meet the country's growing demand for secure and reliable communications services, using a new and exclusive landing point.
As part of its partnership with Level 3, EmCali will use the capacity of Level 3's submarine cable network to connect the country directly from Cali, with major cities in the Americas such as New York, Los Angeles, Mexico City, Santiago de Chile, Buenos Aires and São Paulo.
The new route will provide improved connectivity to cities in Asia and Europe, as well as an infrastructure platform for other projects and initiatives in the telecommunications sector such as the Vive Digital Program that with its National Fiber Project will allow the country to increase the number of internet connections by four.
