Latin America. The Dolby Vision laser projection system, the result of the joint work of Dolby Laboratories, Christie and Necsel, has just won a Prism Awards 2016 within the category of Displays and Lighting.
The Dolby Vision projection system uses state-of-the-art optics and image processing at the service of a high dynamic range technology with reinforced color that also offers a contrast ratio that surpasses, with great advantage, the other technologies in the sector. The result is a much richer and more detailed viewing experience that translates into vivid and realistic images that immerse the viewer in the world that is recreated on the screen.
Doug Darrow, Senior Vice President of Cinema Business Group, Dolby Laboratories, did not hide his satisfaction: "Dolby is a great honor to receive this Display and Lighting award at the 2016 Prism Awards, as it recognizes the scientific and technological excellence and the enormous preparation of the Dolby, Christie and Necsel teams that have participated in the project. Our mission has always been to contribute to the advancement of the science of vision and sound with technologies that increase the attractiveness of entertainment creations. And that's precisely what the Dolby Vision laser projection system — an integral part of Dolby Cinema — achieves by allowing filmmakers' creations to come to life on screen."
Jennifer Smith, Executive Vice President of Global Market Solutions at Christie, said: "Christie congratulates our partner Dolby and Necsel, our supplier partner of the laser device, for the collaboration of our three companies that has led to the design of a unique projection system that has materialized in Christie 4K laser projection heads, customizable and with HDR (high dynamic range) capability".
Smith added, "Combined with Christie's modular 6P laser light sources, the new technology delivers the high-contrast, ultra-high-brightness images that have made Dolby Vision, the visual expression of Dolby Cinema™, a superior cinematic offering that combines spectacular image and sound technologies in an inspiring design that makes every visit to the movie theater a fascinating cinematic event."
Greg Niven, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Necsel, said: "We have been working closely with Christie on his laser projection program for many years, and we are proud to be part of this pioneering solution in film projection technology."
Organized by SPIE and sponsored by Photonics Media, since 2008 the international Prism Awards recognize the best and most innovative products within the field of optics and photonics.
