Peru. The mining company Southern Peru Copper Corporation (SPCC) has installed in its control room in Moquegua, Peru, a Christie Entero HB videowall, managed by the Christie TVC-700 controller, which allows real-time monitoring of its entire electricity network. The design and implementation of the system has been carried out by the Peruvian engineering company Procetradi.
Southern Copper Corporation (SCC) is one of the world's largest integrated copper producers. In Peru, the company operates the Toquepala and Cuajone mines high in the Andes mountain range, about 860 kilometers southeast of the city of Lima, the country's capital. It also operates a refinery in the coastal city of Ilo.
To monitor these three enclaves, Southern Peru has a 24/7 Control and Operations Center located in Moquegua, a department in the southeast of the country. From there, the correct functioning of the power system of the mines is supervised and the replacement of the different disconnections caused by network failures is coordinated, being able to carry out remote operation to minimize the disconnection time of a load.
This control room is equipped with Survalent Technology's SCADA system, a software to control and monitor industrial processes remotely. And this is where christie's videowall has been installed, which allows you to view the electrical diagrams in real time as a result of the automation carried out in the Survalent SCADA system.
The videowall consists of four Christie Entero HB rear-projection cubes of 72 inches and WUXGA resolution. These LED display cubes for videowall have DLP® technology and have been designed for 24/7 environments. They offer a light power exceeding 1000 lumens and are the first in the world to provide capabilities for wireless network operation.
Engineer Rolando Jesus, Head of Power System at Southern Peru, states: "Christie's solution was chosen because it met the requirements that were set out in the project. In the time that we have been working 24/7 with the videowall we have not had major inconveniences, and the solution is very reliable. On the other hand, Procetradi managed to speed up project times to achieve rapid implementation."
For his part, Juan Carlos Vilcas Balbin, Head of Projects at Procetradi, points out: "The truth is that the videowall of the Southern Peru control room offers a great resolution. And the bezel of the screens is almost imperceptible, which helps to be able to deploy continuous electrical schemes without noticing the transition from one cube to another."
The Project Manager of Procetradi also highlights "the low maintenance required by the videowall, which helps the continuous operation from the control center". In that sense, Christie Entero HD cubes feature well-tested solid-state technology with a zero-maintenance design.
The Christie TVC-700 processor installed in Southern Peru allows you to control the video wall as well as show on the screens other tools other than Survalent SCADA, such as the ION Enterprise measurement software that manages and analyzes energy information. The Christie TVC-700 has the capacity to simultaneously manage hundreds of fonts and display them in high resolution anywhere, in any size and in any number of windows throughout a video wall. It is PC-based, easy to use and has been purpose-built to cope with the harshness of 24/7 control room environments.
Juan Carlos Chávez, Christie's director in Latin America, is very pleased with this project: "We are delighted that our solutions for control rooms have been installed in Southern Peru. Christie video walls guarantee impeccable operation and high reliability in environments as complex as control rooms where the demands are increasing and where there can be no failures. We also want to highlight the excellent work done by our partner Procetradi, which has a great deal of experience in the deployment of solutions for control rooms."
Founded in 1997, Procetradi has specialized in the design, architecture and integration of advanced automation, control and communications solutions, including the development and implementation of software and hardware for companies in the energy, water, mining and large industry sectors. The company has a product line called Smart Visual Solution that offers advanced visualization technologies for monitoring in control rooms, from design to implementation.
