International. Hexogon Solution Pte Ltd, a rental company associated with Christie, lit the Christmas fuse with stunning visuals that captivated thousands of attendees at the Lightlighting Event at Christmasland in New Taipei City on November 19.
Planned and executed by Hexogon Solution, the stunning projection mapping, which can be seen every night until January 2, 2017, uses a total of forty-two Christie Boxer 4K30 3DLP® projectors to create a multitude of visuals of great brightness and showiness, which tell the Christmas adventures of the endearing Santa Bear and the Fang Tou family of bears.
The projection animates the façade of New Taipei City Hall, a thirty-story tower located in Banqiao District. On the other hand, in front of the building a fascinating 360-degree projection has been organized on a conical Christmas tree 36 meters high. The occasion not only marks the debut of the Boxer 4K30 in a major event in Taiwan: with a projection area of 5,239 square meters (the size of a football field), we are facing the largest projection mapping show ever seen in the country.
Adrian Goh, group manager and artistic director of Hexogon Solution, makes no secret of his satisfaction: We are deeply honored by the opportunity we were given to create this visual spectacle for the city of New Taipei, deploying thirty-three Boxer 4K30s on the projections of the façade of the town hall and another nine to map the conical surface of the Christmas tree. Our goal was to make a world-class show for Taiwanese people to enjoy during the holidays and at the same time set the guidelines for how mapping shows should be in Taiwan in terms of technology, brightness and image quality.
Goh tells us that the preparations began in June, with the design of the contents of the mapping, created entirely by the Hexogon team. "For this event we proposed content that had a more three-dimensional approach. Instead of the previous 2D animation, this time the characters were created in 3D. For the stage we also worked with a large number of optical illusion techniques and we did countless simulation sessions with mapping to give life to the environment".
The Hexogon team worked tirelessly to meet the tight deadline and prepare for unpredictable weather conditions, as projections have to continue every night it rains or snows. Backed by the valuable experience gained with the Singapore National Day parades, and the Formula 1 Grand Prix held in the same city-state, not to mention the South East Asian sporting event in which the new Guinness World Record for maximum light power was achieved in a projected image, the Hexogon team successfully overcame the challenge of carrying out this assembly in just one week.
"We develop our own enclosures, in which to align, and from which to manage even, the show under extreme weather conditions. With adequate heat outputs and cooling system and optical protection glass designed specifically for the event, we managed to increase the heat tolerance of the Boxer 4K30 projectors to better manage the different passes, "explains Goh.
The result is an unparalleled show that spreads Christmas joy among adults and children. With a whole series of interesting events ranging from popular celebrations and large concerts to craft markets and carnival parades, Christmasland in New Taipei City has become the meeting point par excellence of the Christmas period, characteristic for its cheerful and festive atmosphere.
"We are very satisfied with the performance of the Boxer 4K30 projectors and delighted to have fulfilled the goal of putting on the largest projection mapping show held in Taiwan. The client also liked that all our suggestions were put into practice with such good results. I think we have raised the bar considerably and customer expectations for future shows in Taiwan," concludes Goh.
