Mexico. More than 30 years ago, Mexican music legend Antonio Aguilar toured the American continent accompanied by his family with the first equestrian show in history in America. Now, his son, singer Pepe Aguilar, has revived the tradition with his equestrian show "Jaripeo Sin Fronteras", immersed in three generations of Aguilar performers and updated with dynamic lighting effects.
At the Palacio de los Deportes in Mexico City, Pepe Aguilar presented his show "Jaripeo" with the accompaniment of lights of 40 elation Platinum FLX hybrid moving heads and 22 Par Elation SixPar 200 IP lights with Antari F-7 Smaze units used for atmospheres and a thin layer of projection mist in the air.
El Jaripeo, a Mexican equestrian show that includes horseback riding, typical Mexican costumes and regional music such as Mariachi or Banda, has been modernized using video mapping and dynamic lighting effects. "Jaripeo Sin Fronteras" combines tradition with modern technology to reinvent the great shows of the past and create a new show to remember.
The person responsible for the lighting design was Ricardo Ortiz with technical production of Apollo Equipment. The Elation equipment was chosen for its power and color gamut, while a multi-environmental IP65 rating was important for devices located next to the arena itself. The SixPar 200 IP units with their six-color LED chip, including UV, were located around the center of the place and were used to illuminate the traditional costumes: the "Charro" suit for men and the "Adelita" dress for women riders in bright color. The SixPar's IP65 rating not only protects against water, but is also "dust-tight", which was important as the place was filled with dust from multiple acts of riding.
Animals also influenced lighting in another way. As the horses were easily frightened, automatic devices were prevented from moving too quickly, making abrupt changes or blinding the animals. Platinum FLX moving heads were placed on each side of the square surrounding the center of the arena, 10 per side, and were mainly used to create texture and color in the audience, although when there were no animals on the spot they were also used to illuminate the center of the arena.
Two other important roles of Elation's award-winning spot/beam/wash moving head were painting the sand with ultraviolet light (the accessory contains 10 dichroic colors, including UV) and illuminating an arrangement of disco balls that descended from the ceiling during a song performed by Pepe's daughter, Angela.
