International. According to a recent study of the cruise industry, when people who are part of "Generation Z" and "millennials" embark on a journey they are looking for the same unique experiences and technological personalization that they enjoy every day at home.
For this reason, Panasonic and Princess Cruises collaborate to offer the first immersive experience available in the Princess Cruises fleet by using a PT-RQ50KU laser projector, the first model of the Japanese company that offers 50 thousand lumens of brightness, native 4K resolution and a compact design that facilitates its transportation, assembly and operation.
The Sky Princess is the first vessel that has been equipped with the PT-RQ50KU projector, belonging to the Solid Shine series, with LED light source, 3-Chip DLP technology and a service life of up to 20 thousand hours. This equipment will be used to bring to life the show 5-SKIES, a virtual reality themed game to which all passengers will have access and in which they must face five levels of difficulty that they must complete before reaching the maximum level in which the Sky Princess character is. The show debuted in December 2019 and during 2020 will be available aboard the Enchanted Princess cruise ship.
The 5-SKIES show is a game made up of various digital effects, incredible acrobatics, different scenarios and a dazzling costume design, as well as being sounded by contemporary music. That's why Princess Cruises managers looked for a projection team that could deliver bright, crisp and vivid colors, superior resolution and the dynamic contrast needed to generate an exciting, captivating and memorable entertainment experience.
Another feature by the shipping company chose the Panasonic 4K projector was the weight and dimensions, since its compact body facilitates installation time and configuration and commissioning maneuvers. "We knew from the beginning that Panasonic's 4K projector would help us push the boundaries of theatrical design so that 5-SKIES surprises our passengers night after night," said Denise Saviss, vice president of entertainment at Princess Cruises.
The PT-RQ50KU laser projector combines a native 4K resolution of 50 thousand lumens of brightness with SOLID SHINE technology based on a heat-resistant phosphor wheel, which offers more vibrant colors to deliver pure and powerful images. In addition, it provides significant workflow advantages such as easy transportation and installation, as well as fast and flexible adjustments. Due to its laser source, it has a useful life and reliable operation of up to 20 thousand hours of practically maintenance-free projection.
"We are excited to work with customers like Princess Cruises, with the ambitious vision of creating unique and exciting entertainment experiences," said John Baisley, senior vice president, Professional Imaging & Visual Systems Division, Panasonic Sytem Solutions of North America. "The PT-RQ50KU has the ideal laser projection technology for cruise ships because it offers powerful images and advantages that maximize aspects such as space and weight, fundamental factors on board a ship."
