Latin America. In the quest to offer a state-of-the-art lighting portfolio, GE Current has launched a new version of the Daintree EZ Connect platform, which works in conjunction with a mobile phone app. With this version, the commissioning, programming, configuration and control of the luminaires are carried out completely from the application.
In addition, the integrated sensor (WIT100) provides occupancy and daylight detection, as well as communication between on-site luminaires, without the need for a control center, gateway or cloud operating system. We do this because good control over lighting is vital, especially in sectors such as commercial, as it typically represents almost 50% of the electricity consumption bill.
To achieve intelligent control and management of lighting, it is especially necessary to install devices that allow monitoring consumption, or if it is not possible, to carry out periodic audits, because "what cannot be measured, cannot be controlled", as indicated by business professor Peter Drucker. With these measurements it is possible to obtain the necessary data to have a global and specific panorama of the energy consumption of the point, which allows the adoption of measures to optimize the use of energy.
Lighting is one of the resources we use and need most often, either in the morning in the form of natural light or at night, where we practically depend 100% on artificial sources. Being one of the most used resources, artificial lighting ends up being one of the largest sources of energy consumption without noticing it; globally, lighting accounts for 19% of total electricity consumption, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA).
Specifically in Mexico, this value varies depending on the economic sector, being 8.65% in the industry, 27.02% at the domestic level and 44.11% at the commercial level, according to data from the Federal Electricity Commission.
Among the easiest implementation actions to economize, is the adoption of new optimization technologies, so it is necessary to invest where the greatest savings can be obtained in relation to the investment made. For this, lighting is the sector that provides the highest yields, achieving with LED technology up to an 85% reduction in consumption. In addition, it supports IoT management platforms, sensors and controllers under the same infrastructure.
