Latin America. Severtson Screens is celebrating its 35th anniversary. The company started in 1986 at the home of the founder's parents, said Toby Severtson, president and CEO of Severtson Corp.
"The company's first job was with Arizona's own Williams Air Force Base in response to the need of the U.S. Air Force. To find a quality optical coating and a uniform application process for the interior of their vaulted flight simulators," he said.
Working late every night in the family kitchen and backyard, Severtson Corp. founder Ron Severtson not only solved the technical problem of evenly coating a domed surface, but also created a product that had the reflective properties the Air Force needed to make its simulation program successful.
Demand for Severtson's product soon caused the company to work for large corporations and military organizations in more than 40 countries. In an effort to address the safety concerns of the day's solvent-based optical coatings and remain competitive in the global market, Severtson continued to refine its formulas. His work led to the introduction of Severtson Corp.'s 3D optical coatings in 1988. In 1989, Severtson Corp.'s optical coatings were safer and more environmentally friendly water-based formulas.
"In the early 1990s, a contract with IMAX Corporation brought Severtson Corp. into the movie screen industry," Toby Severtson continued. "To meet the challenge of larger screens, a robotic application system was designed that could be used to coat the screens on site. In 1998, Severtson Corp. applied its optical coatings to the world's largest cinema screen (103 feet x 129 feet) in Sydney, Australia."
In 2003, Severtson Corp. launched its own line of Home Theatre/Pro AV displays with a basic fixed-frame display. Subsequently, the company expanded the line to include a screen for every need. Kirk Severtson, vice president and chief technology officer at Severtson Corp., explained, "By utilizing the same optical coatings used on our large cinema screens, the Home Theatre/Pro AV line delivers exceptional performance in 2D and 3D formats."
In 2009, Severtson Corp. became a full-service cinema display manufacturer. The high quality of all its products has made Severtson Corp. the industry standard in quality and customer service worldwide.
"The combined experience of building small home theater screens and large cinema screens has given Severtson Corp. the expertise to meet the needs of the professional AV market for both professional indoor applications and large outdoor spaces," added Kirk Severston.
In 2019, Severtson Screens moved to a larger nearby campus.
"It was time," Toby Severtson explained. "With our continued growth, we were breaking the seams at our three Mesa, Arizona, facility and needed to find a location where we could expand our headquarters and manufacturing capabilities. Our new San Tan Valley, Arizona campus has allowed us to grow our footprints for increased production and efficiency by allowing us to design and build a multi-facility campus that meets all of our office, manufacturing and storage needs."
Now, in 2021, Severtson Corp. remains a global leader in innovation and quality, including its new folded technologies for cinema screens.
