Latin America. Technological impacts impact all stages of life, from public spaces to sites where the greatest precision is required to carry out high-impact work. For the health sector, the integration of new tools helps to facilitate the workflow in operating rooms, since from this the decisions of surgeons are based.
The staff that participates in an operating room could give us an endless lecture of the situations that are triggered from the moment you enter surgery, from terrible hours of fatigue, to complications in the middle of the intervention, in which a specialist colleague is required, which in some cases may not be in the city, and even outside the country. As a result of these inconveniences, Barco has been responsible for focusing its attention on the implementation of remote operating rooms, where telesurgery is now a possibility to make interventions from different parts.
Barco's Nexxis OR-over-IP platform has been designed to do just that: distribute high-quality uncompressed video over IP easily and smoothly.
For doctors this option represents an improvement in working conditions, since an OR over IP approach is used where the surgical video can be consulted anywhere there is an authorized internet connection; which implies that there is no need for the surgeon to be in the operating room, because through his colleagues it is possible to direct it remotely.
In this sense, this new technology implies cost reduction for a critical sector in the face of the scarcity of resources, the possibilities of telepresence expand even to tutorials, teleproctorization and teleconsultation. It is now much easier to train, meet, consult and interact with clinical staff. In the face of operational complications, the Nexxis platform facilitates training in several ways:
- Through telementoring, such as real-time remote guidance and teaching of surgical treatments or procedures, this stage is ideal for guiding surgeons on the correct use of equipment and materials.
- Through teleproctorization, which refers to the monitoring and evaluation of skills of remote surgery trainees; interacting closely with residents and doctors is the ideal channel to achieve better results.
- Finally, through the teleconsultation, where the specialist will review by means of transmission of images or videos the results or studies of a specific patient in order to communicate their opinions to the local surgeon.
- The experience of remote surgeons can be considered the ideal added value when carrying out procedures that require a second opinion or failing that the skills of a remote doctor, having the best tools in the operating room will allow to provide extensive patient care.
