Mexico. It is estimated that at least 5, of the 30 to 40 tropical cyclones expected during the rainy season, will impact with heavy rains and flooding in 121 recurrent places in the CDMX, according to the National Meteorological Service.
According to the Fire Department of Mexico City at this time they cover up to 200 daily services related to problems caused by the rains. During last year's rainy season, which runs from May to November, they attended 1,394 flood services, representing 43% more than they had in 2020, 21% more services for short circuits and 18% more for fallen cables.
"Given this situation, we strongly recommend protecting the computer and operational technology of companies and homes against power failures, with a UPS system, surge suppressors and energy management solutions such as controllable and manageable PDUs (Power Distribution Units)," said Miguel Monterrosas, Director of Technical Support Tripp Lite, manufacturer of protection solutions, electrical power backup and connectivity.
According to the manager, variations, sudden increase in voltage, blackouts and short circuits, caused by rains cause loss of connectivity, breakdown, blockage, deconfiguration or damage to technological equipment. This causes loss of information, productivity and problems in the operation, which translates into great economic losses, especially at a time when digital technology is essential to work, study and carry out various productive activities.
A UPS system with automatic voltage regulation and surge suppression, ideal for homes, offices and SMEs; protects screens, PCs, laptops, surveillance systems, among others, and provides backup time through its batteries, to store information and properly close equipment; while UPS systems with On Line technology, recommended for mission-critical and telecommunications applications, provide precision support and protection.
According to the executive, it is important that the UPS or voltage suppressor, offer protection for the telephone line and coaxial cable, because electric shocks can enter through the Internet service and be transported to the screen, computer, entertainment and surveillance systems, and burn them.
It is worth noting the importance of adopting equipment designed to avoid short circuits, says Monterrosas "Tripp Lite protection solutions, for example, are made of non-flammable materials in the chassis to prevent the flame generated by the short from spreading; they have heat suppressor technology that supports large amounts of energy and thermal circuit breakers that absorb the impact of the short circuit and prevent the dispersion of high current flows that can cause fire.
Today it is essential to control the energy of technological equipment, to ensure the continuity of operations during a blackout, through a controllable PDU; as it allows you to turn off each of your contacts individually in order to reserve up UPS power backup time only for critical equipment; or to remotely reset technological devices, such as network switches, routers, networks, CCTV cameras, among others, in case they are deconfigured.
