IoT, technology to make life more efficient and comfortable

Internet de las cosas

Mexico. The Internet of Things (IoT) is a trend, because it links our world with the virtual world to make our lives more efficient and comfortable.

To take advantage of the great advantages offered by this functionality, with which they are already equipping many appliances and other products, it is essential to keep them on and connected to the Internet, so it is also essential that they have an energy backup device known as No break, or UPS (Uninterruptable Power Supply, for its acronym in English) explain the experts in energy protection of CyberPower.

The Internet of Things (Internet of Things) is the technology that allows you to connect common devices to the Internet, from light bulbs, vacuum cleaners, coffee makers, washing machines, air conditioners or heaters and many other devices, to work or turn off at precise times, or to send us information, as in the case of smart refrigerators, that being connected to the network can 'notify' us on our cell phone what products we are missing.

"Fundamentally, IoT is the digital interconnection between devices that have advanced software and technology that allows them to interact with each other over the Internet. IoT devices can be 'switches', which means they send instructions to a device, or they are 'sensors' that collect data and transmit it," explains Alejandro Sánchez, CEO of CyberPower.

The expert adds that these IoT devices are connected through a process called M2M (machine to machine, for its acronym in English) this means that there must be at least two computers that connect to the Internet by cable, WiFi or Bluetooth, and it is also essential to know that these IoT devices may have the ability to collect, Process and store large amounts of information about its users.

The trend of the Internet of Things directly influences the accelerated demand for data centers and server farms, in which the information that these devices send is processed and stored, and that adds to that generated by telecommunications, social networks, Big Data, financial institutions, hospitals, schools, government, businesses and insurance companies, among many more.

iotTherefore, the availability and permanent operation of data centers is essential and require state-of-the-art energy backup devices that are also highly efficient. In this sense, the International Energy Agency, to which Mexico is affiliated, estimates that data centers use about 1% of all the energy produced in the world, so it recommends that devices with greater energy efficiency be used to reduce their ecological impact.

"UPS systems normally consume 18% of data center electricity, however, thanks to CyberPower's GreenPower UPS™ design, our devices guarantee a reduction in power consumption of up to 93%, compared to other conventional systems, which translates into energy and economic savings for data centers and industrial applications," explains Alejandro Sánchez.

Among the most frequent internal causes of 'failure' of a server or data center, failures in the computer infrastructure itself, power supply and human errors, as well as accidents or natural disasters stand out, and to minimize these risks it is necessary to adopt an authentic culture of prevention, in which security infrastructure investments are privileged.

Data centers regularly use online double-conversion topology UPSs, which, in the event of a power failure, allows them to maintain continuous power without variations or micro latencies and protects their servers that are ultra-sensitive equipment.

Due to the amount of information and processes that depend on the operation of the servers, their failures or interruptions are increasingly harmful, expensive and in a few minutes can cause millionaire losses and it is best to invest in state-of-the-art equipment, reliable, scalable and also have high energy efficiency, concludes Alejandro Sánchez.
