Control rooms are the axis of smart cities

salas de control

Latin America. The development of large cities has an impact in many aspects, as well as infrastructure; A large number of people brings with it more traffic, energy consumption and a greater need for public safety ready to contemplate each situation and react at the right time.

In 2050 it is expected that about 70% of the world's population lives in cities and, as cities grow, so does the challenge of managing information efficiently, for this, it is important to work on generating an ecosystem that allows to maintain safely, quickly and concisely the information of the data that the population generates every day.

The control rooms have become the solution to this problem, because they allow the management of such information through the visualization that video surveillance cameras provide them, but not only that, but also to be able to handle a huge amount of data through their operators effectively, allowing in turn to reach a response or conclusion faster than, Otherwise, it would cost valuable time for decision-making.

Managing the enormous amount of services and information within a smart city requires that the operators of a control room can monitor and manage different sources of information that operate 24/7, generating a large number of alerts that in turn they must manage.

Facilitating a huge number of processes
To be able to deal with so much information there is technology focused on making data management easier, such as Barco's OpSpace software, designed specifically for control rooms, allowing a more ergonomic workflow that reduces stress levels and in turn, increases productivity favoring decision making, in addition to improving work with various monitors using only a keyboard and mouse.

The collaboration between different bodies of the city aims to provide a better level of security to the citizen. Therefore, in a smart city, these services must grow to meet the demand that is demanded. Interconnection is something necessary that must be implemented thinking about covering all the requirements that may arise quickly, a challenge that control rooms must constantly face.

Manuel Navarrete, LVX leader Latin America comments "a control room has the function of being the eyes of a city, communicating to each respective area the information that may be urgent is a process that should not be taken lightly. Barco, through its SecureStream software, allows you to share and access important information from various sources remotely and in person, all while maintaining information security."

To maintain this flow of information, it is important that each agency is prepared for a rapid reaction to events that compromise public order. The situations to which a smart city is exposed require a work system that magnifies the speed and accuracy of the response processes, therefore, working hand in hand with specialized technology that saves valuable time is paramount.

The construction of a smart city involves a process where technological collaboration takes an important role in daily life, even if it is not always present in the sight of the common citizen. Strengthening this relationship will raise the standard of living to a new horizon and Barco's technology seeks to be part of this process, making smart cities a closer future.
