Latin America. Sennheiser announced the availability of the EW-DX EM 4 Dante receiver, which completes the company's Evolution Wireless Digital EW-DX microphone offering.
The network-ready 4-channel (19", 1U) receiver is an ideal choice for anyone specifying or configuring large multi-channel systems in live audio, touring, broadcast, theater, and system integration applications. The receiver integrates seamlessly into existing workflows and infrastructures, offering versatile connectivity via Dante (including AES 67 support) for audio over IP, balanced XLR-3 audio outputs, and unbalanced 1/4" jacks.
EW-DX is another example of Sennheiser's spectrum-friendly product design. As the systems do not emit intermodulation products, frequencies can simply be placed in 600 kHz or 300 kHz intervals in Link Density (LD) mode, making the job of the frequency manager much easier. The 88 MHz switching bandwidth leaves plenty of room to maneuver in congested spectrum and, ideally, will support up to 146 channels in standard mode (600 kHz spacing) or up to 293 channels in LD mode (300 kHz spacing).
Simplifying your professional workflows
Ease of use has been a primary goal in the receiver's design, starting with its auto-switching power supply that adapts to the local power supply. Up to four EW-DX EM 4 (up to 16 channels) can be daisy-chained directly without the need for additional devices, as the receiver is equipped with an integrated antenna splitter with antenna power and signal loop.
For network-based systems, the receiver's four network ports allow for flexible configuration modes, and the ports are configured accordingly: Control and Dante Primary combined (single cable mode), Control and Dante Primary separately (split mode), Control, Dante Primary, and Dante Secondary separately (redundancy mode). Ethernet connectivity is IPv4.
Once the receivers have been configured, a quick frequency scan can be initiated via an EW-DX EM 4 Dante. The receiver will automatically display free frequencies on all connected receivers, including the EW-DX EM 2 and EW-DX EM 2 Dante receivers, saving time and effort. Custom frequency lists can also be loaded into the receiver.
The transmitters conveniently synchronize via BLE from a distance of up to 20 meters; The operator does not have to bend down in front of the rack to link receivers and transmitters. The parameters to be synchronized can be determined through the receiver menu. The EW-DX receiver also gives you the option to perform a walk test to verify signal integrity on stage or in the presentation area.
For remote control and monitoring, Sennheiser offers network-enabled software such as Wireless Systems Manager or Sennheiser Control Cockpit. Third-party media control systems can also be accommodated via the SSC Sennheiser Sound Control protocol. For small configurations with a maximum of 16 channels, the system can also be operated via the Smart Assist app.
The user interface of the EW-DX EM 4 Dante is well-structured with easy access to all functions via the navigation wheel and control buttons, and an OLED display that helps read settings even in less-than-ideal lighting conditions. In addition to displaying RF levels, a link quality indicator provides information on RF status, and a switchable headphone output on the front panel allows the audio signal to be monitored.
