Colombia. As a result of a strategic alliance between 2K Foundations, the Vibra en Alta Foundation, owned by singer J Balvin, and the Mayor's Office of Medellín, the first public music recording studio was inaugurated in the Popular commune.
This becomes a center for creation and training, a new Sound Production Laboratory (LPS), within the framework of Medellín Music Lab. The mayor of Medellín, Federico Gutiérrez, stated that:
"The idea is to replicate this in many areas of Medellín. It is the first public music studio. This way we are going to bring more artists, to make more people discover talent; And what is that?: the opportunities and tools that we have to give to young people, who cannot continue to be taken away by violence. Today Medellín is known for J Balvin, Karol G, Maluma, Feid, Camilo, Yatra, Blessd, Ryan Castro and all these new artists. In the world where you go, they are the reference that you have of the city."
LPS are spaces open to the public that promote audiovisual creation and production through specialized training, professional teams and technical advice. As part of the Network of Houses of Culture of the Mayor's Office of Medellín, it seeks to empower artists, make emerging musical proposals visible, promote networking and collaboration between creators, which favors the sound richness of the communes and strengthens the circulation of local talent.
Thanks to the collaboration of 2K Foundations and Vibra en Alta, in alliance with DBA acústica, the adaptations and the endowment of the studio with first-class equipment were made, so that around 1,035 artists from Medellín have professional tools, develop their music and project their artistic career.
2K Foundations, a global organization committed to social development through sports, education and culture, has worked in various communities around the world by financing projects that generate opportunities for young people in vulnerable situations. For its part, the Vibra en Alta Foundation, led by the artist J Balvin, has the purpose of elevating people to vibrate with their true essence, regardless of their context or possibilities.
"Take advantage of this opportunity that I did not have. Many of us didn't have the opportunity to have a studio, to be able to find this sound, someone to guide us, to tell us how the music worked. Take advantage of what you have here. This is not just for reggaeton. Also for salsa, merengue, any type of music," said the artist and leader of the Vibra Foundation in Alta, J Balvin.
This study is in addition to the city's network of Sound Production Laboratories (LPS). It is the seventh space of its kind and represents a significant advance in the democratization of access to music production. Its impact especially benefits the residents of commune 1-Popular and strengthens Medellín as a benchmark for the music industry in Latin America, reaffirming the District Administration's commitment to culture and young talent.
Finally, Mayor Gutiérrez sent a message to all the artists of Medellín and to the citizens: "keep fighting. Keep working, inspiring more young people, touring the neighborhoods, you as artists, identifying more and more talents that are in the city at all levels: in music, in art, culture, around digital issues."
