International. A study conducted by the company DisplaySearch and published at the beginning of March, revealed that shipments of LCD panels for 3D televisions reached 7.8 million in the last quarter of 2011 for an increase of 26% from quarter to quarter.
As a result, the total figures for the year reached 21.2 million, representing 10% of all LCD panels distributed.
These figures are a consequence of the strong growth expected by manufacturers of this type of device for 2012 . According to forecasts, the increase could reach 138%, which would be reflected in the panels for 3D televisions reaching 50 million units for a penetration of 21.6% compared to the total of LCD screens.
David Hsieh, representative of DisplaySearch said in a statement that "brands continue to promote 3D and end-user interest is growing. Although there are still concerns about the scarcity of services and content, manufacturers of LCD panels for televisions have boosted 3D technology with the introduction of new technologies with an attractive cost-benefit ratio."
