International. During the last version of the Light + Building 2012 fair, the main lighting and architecture fair in the world, Philips presented its latest innovations, which include developments in LED lighting with greater energy savings and innovative designs.
Frans van Houten (pictured), CEO of Philips, was in charge of making the announcements about the LED developments, which allow energy savings of up to 80% in many applications and an average of 40% for all lighting, through digital controls that create intelligent lighting experiences.
The new range of LED bulbs is designed to emit white light similar to traditional lamps, with energy savings of up to 90% in consumption and a service life of up to 25 years. This highlights the bulbs that replace the 75W LED for both consumers and applications.
Another of the segments to which the company bets is OLED technology, with its thin model and diffused light quality.
According to calculations, lighting in the home represents 20% of global electricity consumption, while that of public spaces and commercial buildings amounts to 60% of electricity consumption, which is why the company is betting on solutions for both segments.
On the other hand, Philips presented its results for the first quarter of 2012 with profits that exceeded expectations, reaching 249 million euros and a growth of 80%, thanks to its health and consumer electronics businesses.
