International. A reduction in electricity consumption of 73% expects to achieve the most important museum in the world, the Louvre de Paris, thanks to the implementation of LED lighting in its facilities.
As announced, Toshiba will be the company in charge of supplying the technology that will improve the quality of lighting in several areas of the enclosure, including the hall that houses Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa.
The project began in 2010 and will continue to be implemented in stages; for example, in 2013 it is expected to complete the intervention in the Red Room, while the Napoleon Hall should be ready by mid-2014.
So far, the change of luminaires has focused mainly on the exterior spaces of the museum, including the representative Pyramid of IM Pei, and was advised by the Committee of Historical Monuments and the Architecture and Heritage Services of France, to ensure that the architectural features of the place are preserved.
Edward Lees, product manager at Toshiba Information Systems, explained that "the installation of LED technology has respected the artistic integrity of the Louvre Museum by adapting the installation works, the brightness of the light, the color tone and the angle of the lighting. Everything, in order to achieve a luminosity that respects the landscape of Paris".
"This project is an example of how to extend the lifespan and maintain the aesthetic integrity of world heritage sites and as an eco-conscious company, you can improve your technology while contributing to the reduction of environmental pollution."
