Colombia. For three years Medellín became the first city in Latin America, and so far the only one, to be part of Lighting Urban Community International, Luci, an association that promotes a series of guidelines to improve urban lighting and at the same time working for the environment.
This year, on Luci's tenth anniversary, its general assembly will meet for the first time in a Latin American city, in Medellin. In this way, as explained by the president of the association, Allan Stewart, they seek to highlight the public lighting of the city for its efficiency and coverage, as well as its Christmas lighting.
On this occasion, about 100 people representing 25 cities in Europe, Asia and America will participate in the Luci assembly, which will be held between November 14 and 16.
For his part, Jean Michel Daclin, founding president of Luci, recalled that at the beginning of the association it was very difficult to access information on urban lighting, because for cities this was a secondary issue for municipal administrations focused more on promoting tourism, without taking into account the economic and environmental impact of this issue.
Within the framework of the assembly, the Philips company will award the City.People.Light Award, an award that in its tenth version seeks to exalt the efforts of the populations to humanize the urban environment through light.
Architects, designers and builders specialized in lighting issues, linked to the development of urban beautification and energy efficiency projects in various countries in Europe, Asia and America, can participate in this award.
