Panama. There is no room for error when you are responsible for igniting a conference involving 27 heads of state and five foreign ministers; includes dignitaries from the United Nations and the Organization of American States; and is covered by more than 2,000 journalists from around the world. This is especially true when that meeting hosts something as historically significant as the first meeting between the presidents of the United States and Cuba in more than 50 years.
So it's understandable that when Humberto Barrera was asked to create the lighting design for the VII Summit of the Americas (VII Summit of the Americas), he left with the fixtures he knew and trusted. For Barrera it meant assembling a lighting equipment that included more than 100 COLORado and Ovation accessories from Chauvet Profesional.
"Due to the nature of the Summit, we needed accessories that were one hundred percent reliable," said Barrera, project and sales manager for Alfaro Musical Distribution Company. "I also had to keep in mind that since many lights would be installed in hard-to-reach areas, any failure would be catastrophic for the continuity of the event."
Barrera placed ten COLORado 2 LED accessories in the Cumbre dining room, used to highlight the specific architectural elements of the room, giving it an extra air of elegance. Other accessories used on Barrera's platform included 50 Colorado 4 IP RGBW linear LEDs to bathe the walls in vivid colors and 30 Colorado 2 IP RGBW LED pair-style units to accentuate other conference room features.
Creating an elegant look in the dining and reception areas was only part of Barrera's lighting mission at the historic Summit. He also wanted to foster a relaxed and clean, bright atmosphere in the auditorium of the University of Panama, where leaders such as U.S. President Barack Obama, Panamanian President Juan Carlos Varela Rodriguez and Cuban President Raul Castro held important meetings.
Barrera ordered 22 Ovation E-190 WW LED ellipsoidal luminaires from Chauvet to help him achieve this goal.
