International. Thanks to its technology for displaying large-format images, Panasonic Corporation has contributed to the production of a monumental video projection on water, which was part of the show "Koi-Tsukami at Fountains of Bellagio", a Kabuki theater show in which the famous fountains of the Bellagio hotel (Las Vegas) became a gigantic water screen the length of three football fields.
The traditional Japanese play was presented from August 14 to 16 on a stage mounted on the surface of the artificial lake of the Bellagio hotel. To make the sources part of the scenery, about 300m long and a maximum of 18m high, 16 Panasonic PT-DZ21K 3-chip DLP projectors with powerful brightness capacity of 20,000 lumens were used.
For the installation of the projectors, platforms were used on the water, while the power supply was done through portable electricity generators. The company Shochiku, in charge of the production, has great experience in the realization of shows in which the tradition of more than 400 years of Kabuki theater is mixed with creative and technological elements that allow to bring this Japanese art to a diverse audience of all ages.
This show is the first in a series of Kabuki theatre outreach projects sponsored by Panasonic. The next will be the "Japan Kabuki Festival" that will be held in May 2016 in the same city of Las Vegas.
The technology of these equipment for large format projection is the same that has served for the production of the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the London 2012 Olympic Games or the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic Games. According to consultancy PMA Research, Panasonic has the largest global share in the market for projectors with brightness of more than 5,000 lumens.
