Latin America. Powersoft has announced that Italian speaker manufacturer Eighteen Sound is the latest transducer specialist to recognize the company's proprietary IPAL technology.
Eighteen Sound has designed its new iD Series of transducers to fit perfectly with Powersoft's Differential Pressure Control (DPC®) technology. This is the core technology of the innovative and patented IPAL® (Integrated Powered Adaptive Loudspeaker).
To implement this technology, Eighteen Sound has adopted Powersoft's amplifier hardware module, IpalMod, which overcomes the limitations of traditional transducers by producing unparalleled output at low frequencies. It achieves this by presenting zero-latency pressure sensor feedback, applying real-time correction to maximize Eighteen Sound's high-efficiency 18" and 21" transducers. This provides unmatched output at low frequencies.
In making the decision, Eighteen Sound recognized that despite improvements made in the design, materials, and manufacturing process in the field of low-frequency reproduction, the traditional amplifier/speaker approach still leaves important issues unaddressed: transducers come with physical limitations and uncertainties caused as a result of the intrinsically nonlinear behavior of the speakers.
What Powersoft IPAL brings is a dedicated low-frequency system that integrates an 8.5 kW high-performance, high-power switching mode amplifier module (the IpalMod) along with ultra-high motor force electro-dynamic transducers – Eighteen Sound's 18iD and 21iD speakers.
Giacomo Previ, Director of Sales & Marketing at Eighteen Sound, proudly commented on the technology: "We at Eighteen Sound have always worked towards achieving superb sound quality even in today's most demanding sound reinforcement applications. Powersoft's IPAL technology enables system designers to achieve a seemingly impossible mission: The operation of the transducers and amplifier module, enhanced by the equally amazing integration of each component via IPAL's real-time feedback control, creates incredible sound."
Both IPAL-compatible transducers have a nominal impedance of 2 Ohms. To fully integrate them with the IPAL system, and optimize operation, a pair of each model must be connected in parallel when combined with an IpalMod amplifier module.
Speaking about the latest adoption, Powersoft's Director of Brand & Communications Francesco Fanicchi said: "Eighteen Sound is the second largest driver company to invest in our proprietary technology. iPAL-based speaker/amplifier systems offer unprecedented acoustic performance and complete control of system sound reproduction — and we're thrilled that Eighteen Sound has joined the user family. IPAL and IpalMod bring many benefits, radically improving electroacoustic efficiency in terms of high SPL and sonic performance."
"In addition, the IPAL system ensures consistent transducer performance throughout its lifecycle and compensates for transducer differentials in every subwoofer application."
