International. One of the most watched North American game shows internationally in recent years is American Idol. Part of its success is due to the impeccable staging that includes a show of lights that combine between the stage and the place of the jurors.
The person in charge of the lighting for the last ten years has been Kieran Healy, who for this season decided to give special lighting to the place of the three jurors of the contest, for which he used LED Prism Reveal lights, which allows to highlight the faces of people, achieving a better effect before the cameras.
Kieran Healy explained that in total there are four such lights that he is using for the main lighting of the judges, achieving a color temperature of around 4,700 – 4,800 K. In addition, they feature a large number of different arc sources in lighting design.
"I usually use a tracking cannon when people are moving, but here I had a fixed place. I'm typing the judges with an angle of 45º, left and right, because when it comes to introducing straight as the backlight of all the smoke on the theatrical stage ends, it creates a blurred and diffuse image of the performers," he said.
He concluded that he chose this type of lighting because it can be used effectively in long-range applications and has an output that allows it to be used for distances up to 75 feet.
