ABB, Bosch and Cisco formed an international joint venture called mozaiq operations GmbH, to develop and operate an open software platform for the smart home. The platform will help unify today's standalone solutions for home automation and deliver interoperability between devices.
The platform, which will be developed by mozaiq operations GmbH, includes the Internet of Things, services and people in consumers' homes, making it easy and secure for a wide range of products to communicate with each other.
Consumers will be able to seamlessly and intuitively adapt their appliances and devices, no matter the brand, to offer an unprecedented level of control, comfort and significantly improve energy efficiency.
"This joint effort to develop an open software platform for the smart home fits perfectly with ABB's strategy to seize the expansion opportunities of the Internet of Things, services and people for consumers as well as businesses," said Tarak Mehta, director of ABB's Low Voltage Products Division.
The Mozaiq software platform will create opportunities for a wide range of new services, facilitating the simple, yet secure, exchange of data between different types of devices and their users. By creating a business ecosystem, ABB, Bosch and Cisco aims to facilitate cooperation and accommodate different demands and perspectives from stakeholders as the software platform was developed.
Mozaiq's interim head will be Dirk Schlesinger of Cisco Internet Business Solutions Group. He will be based in Frankfurt, Germany, until a permanent leader is appointed.
A webpage has been created to provide more details about the open software platform and create a hub for the joint venture's customers. You can learn more about the project in http://mozaiq-operations.com
