Latin America. In the framework of the celebration of the Day of Telecommunications and the Information Society (DMTSI), held on May 17 in order to increase awareness of the possibilities offered by the use of the internet and other information technologies to society, Alcatel-Lucent made its forecast of the objects that will be connected in 2020.
In recent years, internet penetration has grown exponentially. Today it is estimated that there are around 14,000 million connected devices in the world and the data generated will double every two years. With the rise of the internet, the number of users with smartphones has also grown and, in turn, the number of users addicted to mobile phones has been increasing.
Against this background, companies such as Alcatel-Lucent envision a future in which the market will move towards the virtualization of networks. These will be massively scalable, dynamic, shared and largely virtualized. They will be networks that will connect 100 billion things in 2020.
While that future arrives, technological advances are already allowing people to connect from anywhere making us see our smartphone on average 150 times a day. Nowadays mobile devices have achieved such prominence that it is possible to send emails while we are on a five-hour trip on a plane, or even answer our friends on WhatsApp or Facebook from the bathroom.
This is, according to Alcatel-Lucent, the panorama that shows us the use of mobile devices when a new celebration of World Telecommunications Day arrives.
