International. RWE has created a communications protocol called "Lemonbeat" that can address challenges within the Internet of Things. Part of the solution is a common language called "Lemonbeat Smart Device Language", compact enough to be used by even the simplest device, and at the same time expandable to serve in complex machinery.
Broad adoption would ensure that all things on the Internet were linkable and could operate with the same logic. "I strongly believe that this increased commonality between devices will significantly accelerate innovation in the Internet of Things sector," commented Dr. Dietrich Gemmel, Managing Director of RWE Effizienz. The ability to use Lemonbeat as a whole, or combine Lemonbeat Smart Device Language with other products such as Bluetooth, WLAN or Thread is seen as the key to proliferation.
The solution arises from the experience gained through home automation, in which several products currently use Lemonbeat. "We have leveraged our technological advantage as market leaders in Germany to develop a common communication model – for the total bandwidth of the Internet of Things," says Gemmel.
The initial offering is a chip and licenses for the software that enable the agile implementation of Lemonbeat. More products are expected to follow.
