EMC Corporation introduces ViPR 2.0, a software-defined storage platform that dramatically simplifies the management of existing and new storage infrastructure and provides new data services to support next-generation applications and big data analytics.
The value of the platform is that it separates the control plane (the ability to centrally manage various functions of storage arrays, including discovery, provisioning, and reporting through ViPR Controller) from the data plane (advanced data services that run on storage arrays through ViPR Data Services and deliver, for example, object functionalities for file-based platforms or block functionalities for generic platforms).
By disconnecting the plane from the control of the data plane, ViPR simplifies the management of intelligent arrays and leverages their underlying intelligence in a fully automated, policy-based manner.
