The Canarian company Geotour Solutions GNSS presents at FITUR a new augmented reality functionality that has been incorporated into its virtual tourist guide system for Smartphones as a support service for visitors to any destination.
Geotour Solutions GNSS has been marketing since the end of 2010 an innovative intelligent virtual video guide based on geo-referenced audiovisual content for SMARTPHONES with GPS. Now it announces its new Augmented Reality (AR) application incorporated into Smartour video guides, a new information and assistance service for the visitor.
This new technology consists of defining a direct or indirect vision of a physical environment in the real world, whose elements are combined with virtual elements for the creation of a mixed reality in real time.
The application will serve as a help and guide to the tourist during his visit to the destination, who will be able to access in a simple and intuitive way to relevant and updated information of the same. From routes and points of cultural and tourist interest, to information on the most outstanding gastronomic, commercial and leisure offer, as well as transport services, health care, or official tourist information points, among others.
In the words of Eduardo González, Managing Partner: "Smartour incorporates this new functionality to its video guide system for Smartphones with integrated GPS, which will allow its users to access information of interest using augmented reality as an innovative system for viewing such information. Using the camera and compass integrated in the terminal, the application facilitates the 2D projection on the screen of the Smartphone, of the objects of cultural and tourist interest geo-referenced in the system through their latitude and longitude. Likewise, the screen indicates to the user the distance at which it is from each point of interest, through an innovative system developed to avoid visual overlaps of points that are in the same direction or close to each other".
This new technology, which was born in the Canary Islands and since the end of last year offers in this region its first virtual tour for Smartphones, aims to position itself as a highly innovative reference for the cultural and tourist promotion of any destination.
At the moment, Smartour is addressing an expansion plan based on the creation of a network of commercial partners and franchisees with the aim of expanding its coverage and services to other destinations in any region of Spain, closing collaboration agreements with tourism and cultural promotion entities, as well as private operators in these sectors.
