Mexico. Mutek is a unique festival that celebrates the inspiring power behind digital creativity, while promoting the cutting edge in electronic music and digital arts. It originated in Montreal in 2000 and after its international expansion, a Mexican edition has taken place every year in Mexico City since 2003.
The thirteenth edition of Mutek Mexico took place from October 19 to 23 and was one of the largest to date with creative digital expression spread over ten places in Mexico City. Acts such as Hiroki Umeda, Richie Hawtin and The Field served the cutting edge in inspiring electronic music using Elation lighting setups.
Serpro Producciones de Monterrey and Power Led of Mexico City, supplied the Elation lighting for the festival while the technical direction of Mutek Mexico was handled by César Coronado, who included 60 ACL 360 Matrix, 14 ACL 360 Bar, and 80 Cuepix Panel, all Elation systems.
"As the places we were using had a lot of columns and weren't very tall, we decided it would be a good idea to cover the columns with a fixation that has many features in one, but also one that could be stacked to the ground and covered from the ground to the top. Our choice was the Elation Cuepix panel," Coronado said.
The technical director lit up the multi-sided stage in Play 1 & 2 using ACL 360 Bar ™ LED slats that he placed on the floor. "The stage had three sides: front, left and right, so the audience could see the artist from different perspectives," he explained.
In Mutek's main hall, Coronado hung 60 ACL 360 Matrix LEDs by moving the panels into two scaffolding structures to create walls of light and combination of pixelmapping and continuous rotation 360-degree fixation, to create a stunning appearance.
Mutek is the delight of a creative person and remains one of the newest festivals on the calendar. The Mutek Mexico 2016 festival attracted large crowds and was the most successful to date.
Coronado recognized the Director of the Festival, Damián Romero, an essential part of the creative process, as well as Alexis Laurence, Production Designer of Foto Museo Room A & B, and Alexandre Péloquin, Lighting Operator of Foto Museo Sala A.
