Latin America. Nexxis has become the preferred video integration platform for the operating room, has been installed in more than 2,000 operating rooms worldwide. The new generation of uncompressed encoders and decoders makes the platform even more connected, flexible and useful than before, and also more sustainable.
Video integration can bring comfort to medical personnel who need to control and operate an overload of segregated systems and medical devices in today's operating rooms. That's why Barco developed Nexxis, a video integration solution that relies on the IP network to securely share uncompressed high-resolution video and audio, from a variety of medical systems, within and between operating rooms.
"The new Nexxis hardware has been designed to further promote the flexibility, compatibility and serviceability of the platform," said Johan Stockman, Barco's VP of Surgical Imaging. "With that, it meets the demands and requests of operating room staff around the world, who want more simplicity (79%) and easier medical device integration (93%) to increase efficiency and reduce workload."
Easier to integrate
Nexxis allows the transmission of HD and 4K signals without downscaling. It uses the best color reproduction methods available, such as 4:4:4 chromatic subsampling and automatic color gamut selection (BT.709 or BT.2020) to detect the camera source and set the display.
This can be done through the intelligent connection of devices, with as few components (and therefore fewer points of failure) as possible. What's new is that it now also supports additional connectivity options, such as 4K endoscopes with HDMI 2.0. In addition, Nexxis adapters are the only AV over IP devices on the market that support two dual-channel Full HD inputs. Nexxis is future-proof and ready to scale for the technology of the future.
The new adapters are significantly smaller and lighter compared to their predecessors. They can be neatly stacked by three in a single 19" and 1RU rack, via ingeniously designed mounting brackets. This saves space and reduces cable clutter in technical rooms, as well as facilitating integration.
Suitable for mobile carts
65% of OR managers report that meeting hygiene and safety standards is a challenge. As with any device in the operating room, compliance with sterilization and safety standards is vital to ensure reliability and patient safety. That is why each component of Nexxis has been classified as a CE/FDA medical device (class II) and is suitable for medical use.
In addition, the new highly compact encoders are perfect for mobile applications. Moving carts through the operating room requires staff to turn off and on the power to the devices in the cart. New encoders help ensure faster commissioning.
Efficient and sustainable energy
All Nexxis components are designed and manufactured with special attention to the protection of the environment and the sustainable use of natural resources. Barco's Design for the Environment program focuses on reducing product toxicity (RoHS and REACH compliance) and making solutions more energy efficient.
The new Nexxis hardware is 50% more energy efficient than before. The environmental impact is lower, thanks to the compact format, the decrease in heat dissipation and the lower energy consumption. In addition, Barco aims to further reduce shipping costs and waste by sending only the necessary power cables that depend on the region.
