Electric Daisy Carnival Mexico was amplified with PK Sound

Mexico. For the fourth consecutive year, PK Sound was in charge of providing the sound of the kineticFIELD main stage at the renowned Electric Daisy Carnival event, which took place on February 23 and 24 at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, in Mexico City.

This was the sixth edition of EDC Mexico, produced by Insomniac and the local company OCESA, bringing together prominent DJs from the international and domestic scene in different scenarios, who represented the union between technology and nature. Several pieces of art and different types of artists were also presented throughout the huge field, mixing amazing scenographies, pyrotechnics, visual effects, high-level lighting and outstanding sound.

Names from the dance music scene such as Alesso, Alan Walker, Loud Luxury, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike and Angemi were some of the DJs who played their tracks on the kineticFIELD stage, before an audience of 120,000 people during both days.

With such a large number of people and huge area to be covered, the producers decided to rely once again on the audio solution that had already been used in the past and worked perfectly in providing the desired results: audio clarity, high SPL and excellent coverage.

All of that was achieved by employing a combination of line array systems, subwoofers and PK Sound software. The highlight was the Trinity Advanced Robotic Line Array, the first three-dimensionally controlled sound system that is configured remotely, capable of focusing sound exactly where it is required.

This robotic line array provides a completely new set of tools that gives advanced users unparalleled control of the vertical and horizontal directivity of the entire array.

90 x PK Trinity Large Format Robotic Line Arrays were used in total, along with 48 x PK VX-10 Compact Line Arrays and 8 x PK VX-12 Line Arrays.

108 dual 18" PK CX-800 subwoofers, 10 dual 18" PK Gravity 218 subwoofers and 8 30" single 30" PK Gravity 30 subwoofers were in charge of the low frequencies.

Speaking specifically about the montage, the main system on stage was composed of four groupings of 14 Trinity elements each. To cover the large space of the racetrack, four delay towers with eight Trinity each were located 100 meters from the main stage plus four delay towers with 12 x VX-10 each 150 meters from the main stage. There was also a delay tower in the VIP area containing eight VX12s.

Bringing that large amount of equipment to the city was not an easy task. As Rory Stewart, PK's production operations manager and audio engineer, who was present not only to operate the show, but also to provide support during pre- and post-production, explained, "Loudspeakers were sent from Canada, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Miami."

All control and processing was done using PK's Kontrol loudspeaker management software and a Digico SD9 sound table.
