Latin America. Sonos launched Sonos Radio, a free, ad-supported online radio service available exclusively to Sonos system users in more than 10 million homes globally.
Complementing the more than 100 online content options available through the Sonos platform, this new service features a holistic and cohesive way to explore radio, bringing together the offerings of more than 60,000 stations from multiple streaming partners with original programming created by Sonos.
The artist-created, ad-free stations feature current influences and inspirations, and begin with a very personal station, conceived by Thom Yorke. Another of the options of exclusive content, is Sonos Sound System in which new artists, stories and notes on the current state of music will be presented. Starting today, Sonos users will be able to listen to Sonos Radio through the system app.
Currently, the sum total of listening time on Sonos systems indicates that, on average, Sonos users spend more than half of that time listening to their favorite radio stations. In the age of streaming, radio continues to evolve, inspiring and complementing on-demand music services and podcasts, connecting global audiences eager to discover and engage in shared listening experiences.
"By making premium products that have great sound and offer the freedom to choose the services of their choice, Sonos has made it easier for its users to discover the richness of online music services," said Patrick Spence, CEO of Sonos. "Sonos Radio brings together online radio services and a set of curated stations in a simple and elegant way. This is just the beginning, as we work to provide services that provide a better experience for our customers, and open an opportunity for our online music service partners to highlight their best content."
It also features original programming created by Sonos, with a musical selection made personally by DJs and artists. Sonos Sound System, Sonos Radio's flagship station, ad-free, is curated and conducted by the Sonos team, with recordings taking place in the newly built radio studio inside the iconic Sonos store in New York.
Sonos lets you explore more than 100 streaming services
To make the experience of listening to Sonos Radio unique, Sonos has collaborated with some of its longest-standing partners, from iHeartRadio and TuneIn, to Napster (formerly Rhapsody), sonos' first online service available. Rhapsody's comprehensive "Powered by Napster" music and audio services platform is the engine that powers the Sonos Stations catalog.
Sonos Radio was created to become a versatile source where users will not only discover new music, but also have access to the other services on Sonos. As a platform, Sonos Radio will continue to integrate and host new stations and featured programming from the more than 100 sound content services available on Sonos.
