Latin America. Epson has driven the projector market since launching its first 3LCD VPJ-700 projector in 1989. In 1994, the company launched the ELP-3000, a projector that connected to PCs and helped establish the culture of big-screen business presentations. Epson then developed projectors for various sectors outside the office, such as home projectors, education and commercial entities.
The company continued to lead the market, maintaining its position as the world's leading supplier of projectors for 19 consecutive years, and has now reached the sale of 30 million units worldwide.
"We are very proud to have achieved the global sale of 30 million projector units," said Yasunori Yoshino, Chief Operating Officer of Epson's Visual Products Division. "With the help of our customers, our projectors have achieved excellent experiences and effective visual communications in business and education as well as in homes, retail and digital art. We would not have been able to achieve this goal without the cooperation of our customers and other stakeholders. But we won't stop here. Our plan is to take visual communications to the next level by solving societal problems, stimulating the imagination of people around the world, and designing products and services that allow people to exercise their creativity."
With large-screen viewing capability and interactive function, Epson's business and home projectors are in increased demand, primarily due to the use of educational apps and work-at-home requirements due to the pandemic. Epson's strength derives from products that are based on key technologies and devices, which have been developed and manufactured by the same company, such as the high-temperature polysilicon TFT panels that are the main component of the projectors.
The company seeks to expand the market for high-brightness projectors by combining these technologies with the luminosity, sharpness and simple installation of laser projectors. Epson will also offer lighting models to transform retail store spaces, and will extend its lines of compact models and short-throw models to offer the same benefits of the big screen in homes.
Epson is also looking to generate new customer value through open innovation, such as launching optical motors for fourth-generation smart glasses using advanced projection technology.
