KNX grows in smart home projects

knx

Latin America. KNX remains by far the most widely used technical benchmark for home and building automation compared to other communication protocols. That's the main result of an industry survey conducted by the specialized magazine Hiddenwires.

According to this, 62% of industry professionals surveyed include KNX in home automation projects and, thanks to this, it is used much more frequently in home and building automation than even Wi-Fi (53%) or Bluetooth (31%) and three times more often than the technologies offered by our direct competitors. Hiddenwires surveyed more than 8000 industry professionals, mostly from the EMEA region, and included mainly system integrators (69%), but also designers, manufacturers, distributors and architects.

Three out of four industry professionals know KNX
In the burgeoning home automation market, KNX gives the impression of occupying a good position and, therefore, is the best known among the technology and communication protocols for smart homes. According to Hiddenwires' market research, three-quarters of industry professionals (75%) know that KNX offers technologies for building automation. KNX's most direct competitor, with a 54 percent spread, is in fourth place in the rankings, well behind the world's leading benchmark.

KNX ranks first in the rankings
No other communication protocol is incorporated as frequently into smart home projects as KNX's. 62 percent of industry professionals trust KNX and have already automated houses and buildings with the technical benchmark. KNX has thus achieved the first place in hiddenwires' home automation ecosystem ranking and is almost three times ahead of all its direct competitors, who have only achieved results of 21 percent or less in this category of the industry survey. Even conventional benchmarks such as Wi-Fi (53%) and Bluetooth (31%), in second and third place, are far behind KNX.

The variety of functions and products make KNX number one
What makes KNX the most prevalent communication protocol in smart homes is mainly its wide range of products. More than 8000 devices from a large number of different manufacturers use KNX technologies and are therefore compatible with each other. Industry professionals can combine products from various brands so that the needs of smart home end users are fully met. "With KNX, we offer an open and highly secure ecosystem for smart housing and building projects that combines a high degree of flexibility and simplicity with maximum comfort. We are pleased that industry professionals recognize and appreciate these advantages," explains Franz Kammerl, President of the KNX Association, based on KNX's excellent results in the hiddenwires industry survey.

The growing interest in home automation and energy management: a perfect combination for KNX
Interest in home automation has not stopped growing in recent years, as stated by 59 percent of those surveyed by Hiddenwires. According to an estimate of 29 percent of industry professionals, interest has more than doubled in their respective regions. According to them, the main drivers of such an increase are the growing awareness of the advantages of home automation (71%), the increase in the demand for energy management (53%) and the so-called "integral solutions for the home" (43%). The latter shows the number of end users who are already looking for automation solutions that connect their entire home as much as possible to simplify their own lives within the framework of smart lifestyle and energy saving. In 2021, various KNX devices and solutions for energy management were launched and this year, many more will follow.
