Latin America. For a musician, such as drummer and producer Mauricio Clavería, it is very practical to use, as far as possible, the same equipment in each of his performances regardless of whether it is an outdoor concert, a presentation in a small auditorium or a rehearsal session.
Using the equipment with which you are familiar allows you to speed up your assembly and adjustments, know your response to different conditions and transmit a sound that goes according to your music and personal taste. To achieve this, Mauricio has chosen the line of portable systems from Bose Profesional that, due to their design, functions and performance, meet the requirements of this tireless artist who distributes his time among multiple projects and cities.
Mauricio Clavería, is one of the most important drummers of Latin American rock. He was part of the Chilean rock band "La Ley", one of the most influential during the consolidation of the rock movement in Spanish. He played for "Los Concorde" and "Fobia", two rock bands in Mexico, where he has lived for more than 25 years. Currently, he heads different rock projects, whose rehearsals, studio productions, concert tours and unique performances are intermingled throughout the year.
A typical week can include several recording sessions at a distance with your colleagues from "DIACERO", the production of an advertising jingle, a local festival with the project "Lo Mejor del Rock en Español" and a trip to the United States to play with the band "Combo" in different clubs.
Due to this pace of work, the Chilean drummer has portable systems, both speakers and consoles and accessories, which are easily transported on short trips, by plane and by road; easy and agile installation; simple and intuitive operation; and that also offer a powerful sound and great clarity to fulfill monitoring or main sound functions.
Since childhood, Mauricio has been a Bose user. At home, his parents had the legendary 901 Series IV model and that was the first speaker he heard music on. So when he used the Bose L1 Model II speaker system and felt the clarity and sharpness of its sound he had no hesitation in adopting it as his portable PA system for testing.
The versatility of the Bose L1 was the main feature that convinced the musician. Using it to feel the sound of the band during rehearsals and then bringing it to the stage as a drum monitor was very convenient. In addition, the portability of the system, its ease of use and intuitive operation completed the arguments to make it your favorite.
Mauricio uses two L1 Model II, the first in his recording and rehearsal studio in the Mexican city of Puebla, and the second in Santiago de Chile, in the rehearsal room of the band "DIACERO", formed by the original members of "La Ley", to monitor the sound of the drums, keyboard, guitar and the singer's voice.
"Combo" is the name of his most recent musical project. It is a power trio formed by Mauricio and two Mexican musicians who live in the United States and is characterized by their energy on stage. For this band, the choice was the F1 Model 812 with the F1 Subwoofer and an S1 Pro system that it uses as a floor monitor. The equipment is used both for rehearsals and to take it to clubs that do not have a reliable PA system, in this way they ensure that "Combo" transmits the strength that characterizes it, but with the sound quality that the audience expects from its experienced musicians.
"With the guys from 'Combo', we used the S1 Pro as a floor monitor, its bass is very powerful and I really like it for its long battery life and Bluetooth connectivity. We have these teams in San Antonio, Texas, which is very convenient because we do a lot of presentations in the southern United States," explains Clavería.
The intuitive user interface of Bose systems is another factor in its favor, as they facilitate its operation during rehearsals and concerts in which it does not have the help of a sound engineer or a technician in charge of the speakers.
In addition to the portable PA systems scattered between Puebla, Santiago de Chile and San Antonio; the drummer has added a TS8 ToneMatch mixer both for his rehearsals and work in the recording studio and for his live performances.
According to Mauricio, the Bose TS8 ToneMatch gives you great flexibility of options to configure the sound mixing of your battery. If time is a factor, then use the presets to do a quick setup, but if you have enough time, then make the adjustments manually and explore different possibilities of sound and effects.
One of the functions that he likes the most is the possibility of equalizing the sound of the different microphones that he uses for the drums. He was pleasantly surprised when he found that all Audix microphones were included in the TS8 ToneMatch's preset menu.
Finally, it highlights its compact size, materials resistant to rough use and its intuitive user interface, because on many occasions (small concerts or a drum workshop) he is in charge of the sound mixing himself and it has always been a simple task with very satisfactory results.
"The TS8 ToneMatch is a mixer that is very easy to use. For some musicians, even if they know how to connect their musical instrument, setting up with a console can be a complicated task. With its presets you can make a quick setup and sound great. But if the musician has knowledge of audio, then he can adjust it manually so that it sounds according to his taste or personal needs, "concludes Mauricio Clavería.
