Chile. The Chilean government kicked off Telecommunications Week with an experimental 5G test at the Domingo Santa María School in Renca. On the occasion, a group of students from the commune had an immersive class on the functioning of the human body, thanks to the mix of technologies provided by the new network and virtual reality glasses.
In the activity, a teacher could be observed leading a fully virtualized biology class, in which he showed the anatomy of the human body, the different systems that compose it and, even, some organs, their structures and functioning, delivering a high quality experience from a classroom.
"The pandemic produced an intense digital transformation and highlighted the relevance of telecommunications networks for Chileans, these provide opportunities for thousands of students to access new learning tools which will also be enhanced with the deployment of 5G and the massification of Artificial Intelligence. In that sense, it is everyone's task, public, private sector and academia, to guide and educate the new generations how to relate to new technologies, provide them with digital literacy skills," said the Minister of Transport and Telecommunications, Claudio Araya.
It should be remembered that one of the main features of 5G is that it minimizes latency and download speeds, functioning as an enabling technology of others, such as the Internet of Things, since it allows the connection of multiple devices with each other.
"As it consolidates, 5G will bring unthinkable advances in areas such as virtual and immersive reality, robotics and Artificial Intelligence, and will have a significant impact on the industrial sector, thanks to the massification of IoT and process automation. But it will also bring significant improvements in areas such as health and education, which will help improve the quality of life and bring opportunities that today, for different reasons, do not reach all people, "said the general manager of Entel, Antonio Büchi.
During the activity, Entel reported that its network is already deployed nationwide and is already operating commercially in 14 regions. Achieved a 60% national advance of the 5G network committed for the first stage.
