The famous Tower Bridge, or London Bridge, which crosses the Tamesis River in the center of this city, was transformed with the help of a new LED lighting installation with a view to the next Olympic Games.
The new lighting system improves the architectural features of the bridge, and replaces static lights with lamps that can vary in intensity and color, while reducing energy consumption.
The project, led by General Electric (GE), included LED luminaires and a new wiring system. In total there were 1,800 LED lights with a high level of energy efficiency , 2,000 meters of linear LED luminaires, 5,000 meters of cable and 1,000 junction boxes.
As for the details of the installation, GE President and CEO Phil Marshall explained that architectural lights and floodlights were combined with the intention of reducing the energy used in bridge lighting by up to 40%.
