Colombia. After the partnership between the Tecnoglass Group and the Spanish company LYA Electronic, Alutrafic was created, the first company in Colombia to manufacture LED lights under SMT and DIP technologies.
The new company, which will be based in Barranquilla, Colombia, required an investment of $5 billion pesos, about $2.6 million. The initial idea is to produce the entire range of products for LED lighting, with a view to supplying the Colombian market and start exporting taking advantage of the Spanish contact.
According to statements by Luis Bernal, manager of Alutrafic, they will initially begin with the production of basic products, such as consumer products for homes, industrial, public lighting, as well as panels for offices and shopping centers. They also plan to enter the military and health market.
The company's first products are being made to order in a plant where about 30 employees work, many of them mothers head of household, and which they expect to rise to 500 in the coming years. They are currently producing traffic lights for the northern part of the Colombian coast.
But they also have their eyes on other countries. The first to want to export are Argentina, Chile, Mexico and Bolivia, where they have some contacts. In addition, they are exploring the possibilities offered by the Free Trade Agreement between Colombia and the United States that entered into force in May, to make direct competition to the products brought from China with others assembled in the region.
