International. To strengthen the security of the city due to the massive arrival of athletes and tourists during the London 2012 Olympic Games, the local government decided as one of its primary measures, to improve lighting in the main tourist areas.
To this end, the task was entrusted to the company General Electric, which installed its Odyssey lamps and street lighting, in addition to the Streetwise spotlights that raise the color reproduction index through a bright light, favoring the images taken by the security cameras installed in the Olympic parks.
But General Electric's intervention did not only include public areas, as its lighting was applied in sports scenarios. With the line of specialized reflectors, with an integrated ballast for sodium vapor and metal halide lamps up to 600W, he illuminated the Olympic Hockey Arena.
It should be remembered that this company was also in charge of the renovation of the lighting in the historic London Tower Bridge, which highlights its architectural particularities with variable spotlights of intensity and color, which replaced the static lights.
In addition, it installed the rings representing the symbol of the Olympic Games, illuminated with LED reflectors, in their smaller versions in Belfast, Edinburgh and Cardiff.
All the lighting interventions carried out by General Electric in London in preparation for the Olympics are framed in a sustainability plan agreed, both with the International Olympic Committee and with the English authorities.
