Colombia. Although still 80% of the bulbs used in Colombia are incandescent, the government hopes to drastically change that percentage after the entry into force from the first day of 2013 of the Retilap standard, which prohibits the commercialization and use of these bulbs.
And it is that in this country lighting represents 16% of total energy consumption and 35% of the residential sector, so this standard seeks to promote energy and money savings by replacing incandescent bulbs with savers and LEDs, which are easily available in the market.
Today, nearly 60 countries have regulations in place regarding the elimination of incandescent lamps and many others are preparing to enter this line, including Colombia.
Philips is one of the companies that is working to support the transition on this issue. It offers environmentally friendly Eco30 halogen bulbs, compact fluorescent and LED bulbs on the market. Savings in energy consumption with new technology bulbs can range between 30% and 80%.
Another important point is that they considerably reduce the pollution of the environment, because they do not contain dangerous substances inside or their quantities are minimal. In addition, the most advanced technology bulbs have functions that allow their control through intelligent systems.
