International. Shure Incorporated is celebrating 90 years in the professional audio industry. From its humble beginnings as a one-man company selling radio parts sets, Shure now offers a diverse range of wired and wireless microphones, headphones and headphones, personal monitoring systems, phonographic cartridges, and conference and debate systems.
Shure products have been used by luminaries such as Martin Luther King, Jr., Elvis Presley and every president of the United States since Lyndon B. Johnson.
Some milestones in the company's 90-year history:
- The introduction of the first single-element unidirectional microphone, the Unidyne, in 1939 changed the way microphones are made to this day, an achievement that was honored with the IEEE Milestone Award in 2014.
- During World War II, Shure provided microphones to the U.S. armed forces and met all military test specifications for its products, which the company continues to apply.
- The SM57 and SM58, developed in 1965 and 1966 respectively, remain two of the most popular and widely used microphones in the world today.
Several recent additions to the Shure product range have set new standards for audio quality and performance. The Shure Axient Wireless Management Network was the first wireless microphone product to detect interference and change frequencies automatically.
The SE846 Sound Insulating Headphones feature an unprecedented bass filter, a true subwoofer that delivers deep bass performance without sacrificing clarity or detail. And the upcoming MOTIV digital products are a new line of portable microphones designed to capture high-quality audio for vocal/acoustic recordings, podcasts, YouTube videos, field recordings and others.
