International. Panasonic installed 400 LED reflectors on top of the area called outfield or gardens in the Tokyo Dome, the Yomuri Giants baseball field and one of the largest multipurpose indoor stadiums in Japan. Panasonic's LED lighting technology will allow for easier control, excellent color, light uniformity, increased safety and minimal maintenance requirements.
As part of the project, It is expected that, by March 2017, Panasonic will install 300 more reflectors, now in the diamond or infield area, to achieve a total of 700 luminaires in operation.
The reflectors installed in the Dome have the same level of brightness as conventional HID (High Discharge Intensity) lighting systems but with an energy saving of 50%. In addition, the service life of the luminaires is 40,000 hours, 4 times more than conventional reflectors, this contributes significantly to reducing maintenance costs.
With capacity for 55,000 people, the stadium opened in 1988 has been the scene of major sporting events and concerts so the need for an efficient, economical and long-lived lighting system is indispensable.
Panasonic, a company with extensive knowledge and experience in LED technology, participated in this project from the development process to the installation stage so that the distribution of light was adequate. Baseball games being the main activity of the Dome with 60 professional games annually, it was of the utmost importance that when the ball was in the air the brilliance of the area allowed the players and the public to visualize it to achieve the expected play.
"The Tokyo Dome is one of the largest and best known in Japan. I am very excited that our lighting team has been chosen to illuminate this stadium," said Masayuki Kurimoto of the Lighting business division of the Eco Solutions Company of Panasonic Corporation and who managed to show the benefits of LED reflectors to the fullest. "We hope that improved lighting conditions can create a more exciting experience, both in matches and shows, for the entire audience."
