International. A new way to combine lighting for the benefit of patients' recovery when they are hospitalized was created by the company Philips. The so-called HealWell is an intelligent network control system, which automatically manages an adjustable dynamic light rhythm.
To achieve the effect of ambient light, it has a chromatic LED line on the cornice opposite the bed; for accent light, LED spotlights on ceiling reflecting on the wall opposite the bed; for dynamic light modules, it has ceiling spotlights that offer the rhythm of daylight, with variations in light intensity, as well as warmer or cooler light, depending on the time.
In addition, it has a centralized control of all lighting; work light for recognitions and emergencies and personal reading light with an adjustable LED spotlight on each bed.
This system is the result of a field study with HealWell in the cardiology department of Maastricht University Medical Center, MUMC, in which they analyzed patients' behavior with lighting.
Analysts compared the reaction in control rooms with existing lighting and the HealWell solution, which was installed in the intervention rooms. With the latter, they managed to make patients fall asleep more quickly, more hours and improving their mood according to the Hospital Depression and Anxiety Scale, HADS.
