Mexico. Sustainability and aesthetics are the main elements of the installation of GE Lighting LED luminaires in the Tlaqná Concert Hall of the Universidad Veracruzana, in Xalapa. This project had the participation of the Government of the State of Veracruz, the National Council for Culture and the Arts (Conaculta) and Banamex.
"The Concert Hall is in itself a heritage of the entire Veracruz society. In this sense, we made the decision to give it a new face with the GE Lighting LED technology offered by Elkon. Now, the public has the possibility to attend concerts that give them an extraordinary acoustic and visual experience in a space with a world-class infrastructure, "says Dr. Raciel Damón Martínez Gómez, General Director of University Communication.
Elkon, a company specialized in saving electrical energy, was in charge of carrying out the project that included the electrical installation and the new lighting. "GE Lighting's LED technology has contributed to a significant reduction in energy consumption at this location, with savings of more than 50 percent. All the lighting implemented in the Concert Hall is LED, except for those luminaires intended exclusively for special effects on stage," said Eng. Gustavo Cadena Bustamante, General Director of Elkon.
"GE Lighting has been operating in Mexico for more than a century and our commitment to the country continues to grow. In 2014, we will continue to accompany Mexico in replacing incandescents with more efficient lighting technologies and will do everything we can to help the country become a banner in this area," said Rudy Calderón, General Manager of GE Lighting for Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean
This project seeks to participate in the National Energy Saving Award thanks to the fact that its energy consumption index is one of the lowest in public concentration venues in Mexico, which fluctuates between 24 and 28 percent. In addition, the Concert Hall aims to obtain mercury-free indices to obtain LEED certification, which is granted by the Green Building Council of the United States (USGBC, for its acronym in English) for sustainable buildings.
