Latin America. Schneider Electric expanded its Sustainability Business unit. This year, the area will double its operations in Latin American countries with a focus on the main industries and companies in different sectors.
Regarding this, the recent SAP study "Sustainability in the Latin American Leadership Agenda", revealed that 69% of senior executives of medium and large companies in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia and Mexico, already have a sustainability strategy in their organizations, a growth of almost more than 20% compared to last year and which demonstrates the importance of the work of these experts.
Sustainability Business is responsible for consulting services on sustainability, ESG criteria, decarbonization and energy management. Due to its growth, the area already has hundreds of customers who seek to give greater strength to their sustainability strategy in the market.
"We are expanding our team by hiring experts on issues of corporate sustainability, sustainable solutions and energy management. As one of the most sustainable companies in the world, we want to help new customers decarbonize their operations, maintaining and contributing positively to their financial results, as well as at the same time acting with environmental responsibility," says Mathieu Piccin, Director of Schneider Electric's Sustainability Business for Latin America.
The executive explains that the decarbonization of the economy is a megatrend encouraged by both public policies and the private sector. Well, for example, in the market, Argentina leads organizations that advance in sustainability, followed by Colombia (32%), Brazil (28%) and in fourth place Mexico (21%) according to data from the SAP study.
"This movement in the market and in the economy generates a growing demand for consulting. By hiring these services, companies gain experience in strategizing and in dealing with investor and consumer demands," says Piccin.
Sustainability at Schneider
With a track record of meeting ESG criteria over 15 years, Schneider Electric adapts sustainability as one of its business pillars. This year, the company was highlighted for the 11th time on Corporate Knights' annual Global 100 list, which evaluates the world's most sustainable companies. In 2021, the company ranked first in the ranking.
In addition to these achievements, in 2021, Schneider Electric launched its Energize program, which aims to increase access to renewable energy by suppliers in the pharmaceutical sector. Developed in conjunction with Carnstone, the project has already benefited ten multinational pharmaceutical companies.
As for the advancement of renewable sources, Schneider Electric in partnership with Walmart encourages the adoption of the modality among retail network providers in the United States. In addition, the company recently announced an alliance with PepsiCo, to accelerate the adoption of renewable energy among value chain partners. The companies' main goal is to accelerate the transition to renewable energy through power purchase agreements (PPAs) and other procurement options, helping to reduce the food and beverage company's Escopo 3 emissions.
